Tart apples and the sweetness of the medjools combine for a very tasty apple crisp. We used date sugar for even more of a date flavor.
8 c. peeled tart apples sliced
3 cups of medjool dates
2/3 c. packed date sugar
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/3 c. butter
1 c. chopped nuts of your choice
additional apple slices for garnish (optional)
additional medjool dates chopped (optional)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Chop your pitted medjool dates. Mix the medjool dates and apples in a non-greased round baking dish. You could also use a 12x8x2 inched square dish, but for the sake of this post we went with the round baking dish for presentation purposes. In a spate bowl you are going to make the crumble and topping. Combine your date sugar, cinnamon and flour; cut in the butter until you get a nice crumble. Combine your nuts into the
crumble and pour evenly over the sliced apples and medools you placed in the baking dish earlier.
Bake at 375 for 4 minutes checking for doneness by how tender the apple slices are. You can use the additional apple slices and chopped dates for a garnish by placing on top of the crumble.
Dish is to be served warmed. A scoop of vanilla bean ice cream should always be considered on any apple date crisp.
